Why are retailers playing games with the ...

My kid asked me for a wii and I said ok. I went shopping for one and couldn't find one. I looked online and that was a mess. Gamestop only has a bundle and it isn't for sale until after 10-31-07 and if you read the fine print they claim to have the right not to include something if it isn't available. Walmart has a bundle also and it seems like a better deal than gamestop's, but my kid doesn't need more than one game at this time. Best buy is out of stock. Circuit city is out of stock. Here is where the games begin. I work in warehousing. I have worked in warehousing for a while. So while working in a warehouse I saw 50 pallets of the Wii. About 70 to a pallet. The pallets are sitting neatly in storage racks above pallets of laptop computers. The laptop computers are selected and shipped daily. The Wiis haven't moved. So why the game? Oh, Christmas season is coming and retailers want to wait to grab as much dough as they can. I told my kid that after Christmas the Wii will be available for a decent price and I'll get them one then. My kid looked broken hearted but I showed her what people on Amazon wanted for a used Wii- a whooping 349.00.The Wii isn't rare. Retailers are just not willing to sell a single unit at base price during the upcoming holiday season. Why are retailers playing games with the ...
I didn't realize that they were still hard to purchase in some areas. That sucks, hopefully you can get one soon. I hope Nintendo can fill a bigger demand this time around. Why are retailers playing games with the ...
How are people selling used Wii's on Amazon contributing to the profit of retailers? And it would be ridiculous if they raised the Wii's price; they won't, for a fact. So weird as that indeed may seem, I hardly recognize any ''smart play'' by retailers in this.
My brother used to work at Best Buy and when 360 came out he said Best Buy would get them on Friday but hold them until Sunday when their weekly advertisements came in the paper so more people would come to the store. I bet they do the same for the Wii.
What if one of those 50 pallets went missing?;)
yeah retailers like to hold onto that stuff all the time...probably holding onto them till like black friday or something. which is really dumb. why hold onto what you can push out easily?
Whoa still a lot of shortages in the U.S then? I understand what you mean about retailers I used to work for one I probably shouldn't mention and this was the case with DS Lite when it was released and it was 100x worse round Xmas, people would come in asking if there were any in stock and all they got was ''sorry not at the moment'' until a few weeks before Santa was due they put them all out.Funny thing was.. they flew off the shelves and couldn't handle the stock demand and customers started complaining.Serves them right, I quit right after new year.

This happens all the time with Nin's stock ... I also have trouble beleiving that they cannot manufacture enough of them for the Christmas period to meet demand!! Someone may put me right here but it is my understanding that all compents are easy to manufactor it's a great machine but has none of the complicated chip sets or blu ray diaodes that the other next Gen machiones have I really don't understand it unless it's only to perpetuate the hype...
Probably Nintendo %26 retailers working together to get more people hyped and flustered about something they should be able to get their hands on easilybut instead are forced to shell out tra on the bundles?
The Wii IS rare.See it works like this. Stores only have so many until for the entire holiday season and they need to make them count. If they go through their Wii's right now then what are they going to draw you into the store with since they can't get more?Stores are very cagey right now because they have to balance Wii sales over this entire period. That means you'll see the Wii only on Sundays when stores are trying to get people into the stores.
In some places, Yes the Wii is still rare, but others its not. I think they might be waiting till November or december to release a Bunch of Wii's. I already got one so it doesn't bother me but for you i hope you can find one soon. Also Bioshock and Halo 3 will definitly not change Wii owners to play the 360. Also xbox360 has been out for over 2 years now, Wii only about 1. So it will probly take the Wii about 2 years to get it great games. Although within the next half a year there is Galaxy, BWii, SSBB, No More Heros, and maybe some other games that look great, so theres no way Wii owners are turning to the 360.
Its pretty dumb that they're holding them for christmas. If you really want to get one, its best to get to best buy on sundays right when they open.
there just saving up for x mas

As we move into the holiday season, you will start to see nice sells and things like that, and when people get into a packed store to go get thier Wii, they say ''why go to 9 more stores that are this packed whenI can just do my shopping here'' that is the reason they bogard things in stores, I mean the Wii is going to sell out regardless of when they release it, however they got more merchandise to attempt to entice you with, while you get your Wii.Also to the TC, that bundle on GS isnt shipping on Halloween I orderd that bundle weeks ago as a gift. They pushed the date back about 3 times, but the person I bought if for recieved it yesterday as it shipped this past friday.
I haven't seen really a problem with Wii's being rare around where I work. Even where I work pushes them out when we get them. The thing is that Nintendo ships them randomly and not with other products. I wish I could say we had a pallet or 2 of Wii's sitting around but we don't because we push them out the door as soon as we get them, which is usually weekly now.
Around where I live box stores can keep them in stock for a couple of days but they can still be hard to get. Christmas is only going to make it harder to get. But for the comment of the box stores keeping them in storage... actually quite a good idea. Order your max alotment from nintendo every time. Put out the minimum on the shelves to keep people coming in and looking for it, stock up the rest for christmas. I'm sure they think it is better to keep the sales coming little by little and then in Christmas time be known as 'the store that has it in stock'. They are not going to gain anything else by holding on to them... they will still sell for $249. It's the people that know there is going to be a shortage that are going to exploit the 'rich' parents by selling them on ebay for the price of a PS3. Which reminds me, I should go pick up a couple of wii's on my way home from work. I need to 'finance' my Christmas.
i've found many times when the stores WILL get the Wii in on the shipment day but when customers come in to check they are told they are sold out. Mostly to sell when the new sale paper is released. As for the warehouses...that's a whole different story. I gave up on the stores having to wait by the door early morning or wasting my time driving back and forth to check on stock. I ended up ordering it online and payed a little extra but it's worth all the hassle.
What you people are describing sound strange to me because in Canada, it's really different. My friend called toys r us, they said they will have Wii thursday. The store will probalby get 15 to 20 consoles and they will sit there for 2 days. An other friends also bought his at toys. It was in summer time and the wii stand there for 3 days. They had 12 left when he went. That's not the only story, it's not hard to find one here. I got mine by reserving it and one day the store called and told me they received the Wii. I went there and bought it.... simple
