You need the plasma beam. You can get it on Elisia after defeating someone (i'm not telling who to avoid spoiling the game to you). Carry on to pass bryyo you don't need it. All the riddles can be solved if you look them from a different angle.metroid help

If you're on your first pass through Bryyo, you won't be able to melt the ice for a while. Just remember the places where the ice is so you can come back to it once you have more equipment.
